Hooray for the Black and White

Dan Zukowski, when not skewering the Union Pacific, provides other valuable services. Loyalty to 6 Penn Center requires me to post this, dubbed "Sunday Gallery".

I can't be sure if it's an ex-NYC or ex-PRR unit, although I'd guess that it's an ex-PRR unit. I can't tell what the numberboards say in total, although I see a '9' in the right-hand numberboard and a faint '42' in the left numberboard. This could be wishful thinking, though. If I recall correctly, the 429x series of E8As on the PC were all ex-PRR units.

No clue on what kind of New Haven commuter coach that was. Thanks for posting the shot of one of my favorite fallen flags, Dan!

1 You're right, it's an old Pennsy unit, if you are sure the first two digits are "42". The NYC E8's were numbered 4035 to 4099. You have a loyalty to Six Penn Center Plaza? did you ever eat lunch at the White hamburger stand just south on 17th Street?

2 Take a look at the nearest number board and see what you think; I'm not convinced that I'm right. I am, however, absolutely certain that the leading digit is a four and I'm pretty sure that the second digit is not a 0. I'm less certain that it's a 2, but I think I see one (or a corresponding pattern of dirt) there. Oddly, the left-hand windscreen looks kicked out; that seems to be a common problem with the PC units I've seen in pictures, that I can't tell if there's glass in them or not. Modern polarized glass seems to reflect better as far as photographs are concerned. I've never been to Philly in my life, alas. It's one of the things I plan on doing---been to Roanoke a bunch and 3 Commercial Place in Norfolk, but never to the ex-HQ of the other most favorite fallen flag. The "loyalty" bit comes only from liking the Penn Central. That sort of thing draws strange looks among rail enthusiasts. "You like _them_?!"

3 ItÂ’s amazing. I like it. Sounds good to me, even though I canÂ’t agree with everything< that is written here
